Once again there is no midweek match for the 1st Team but it is still a busy week at Short Lane. This evening, Monday, the Under-18’s face their first home league match when they entertain Hayes & Yeading, kick-off 7.45 p.m.
Last week the hastily assembled side took a heavy defeat at Colney Heath in the FA Youth Cup but our new manager Ahmed Ahmed did well to get a team out at all, given that he was only appointed six days earlier and with very few players. Things may not settle down for a few games but already potential new players are making enquiries about coming down and patience is the order of the day. The alternative was an £1800 fine from the Bostik League had we pulled out.
On Tuesday evening, our partners, Southall, have a local derby in the CCL, playing at home to CB Hounslow United, kicking off at 7.45 p.m. and there is a reminder for committee members that there is a meeting on Thursday evening.
The Ladies seem to be slipping! After running up 15 goals in the Women’s FA Cup the week before, they faced their inaugural home match in the Premier Division of the Greater London Women’s League on Sunday against the well established Colne Valley Ladies and could only manage ten goals this time, albeit without reply in front of an excellent attendance.
They have been drawn at home to Ascot United Ladies in the next round of the FA Cup but next Sunday, face what sounds a more difficult match, away to Tottenham Hotspur Development.
The 1st Team resume on Saturday after a two week break with a trip to Tooting & Mitcham, whom we have not played in a competitive match since February 2010, when two goals from Paul Johnson and one from Brian Haule gave us all three points in a close 3-2 victory. More on that one later in the week.
Finally, at a Board meeting last week, we are pleased to confirm that Graham Felce was unanimously elected to the Board. Welcome Graham.
