"Big" match on Saturday PDF Print E-mail

sutton united

There should be an enthralling contest in store at Short Lane on Saturday, with Ashford, playing some exciting football recently, entertaining a Sutton United side hell bent upon reaching the play-offs and, doubtless, equally determined to seek revenge for Ashford’s 4-2 victory at Gander Green Lane in January, the last time incidentally that they lost a match.

The first concern, of course, is whether the match will take place at all given the incredible rainfall over the last few days.  Ashford’s pitch has under water drainage pipes, an investment that maybe more clubs should consider, but even they have a saturation point so the chances of the match going ahead will largely depend upon the rainfall situation over night on Friday and more particularly on Saturday morning.  If needed, an inspection will be arranged for around 11.00 a.m.

The Suburban side, under the management of Ben Murray for the first time, is due to travel to Avenue Park, Greenford, home of Bedfont Green’s reserve side.  Although no indication is available as yet, the chances of the match going ahead must be slim at a ground that has suffered innumerable postponements over the years despite everyone’s best efforts.  Ashford have already travelled to the ground once this season, to find it unplayable and will hope to avoid a second abortive journey.

Further news on both matches will be posted on Saturday morning as soon as we know it.
