The spotlight falls upon the Under-18’s and the Suburban team over the next two days. On Monday evening (tonight) the Youth team are due to make the short trip to play neighbours Staines Town in the Ryman Youth League and will be keen to avenge their one and only league defeat so far this season. Since beating Ashford back in November, Staines have actually lost their last two matches, at the hands of Woking and Hayes, but most of the youth matches in this division have been highly competitive all season and nothing less can be expected this evening. Tomorrow evening (Tuesday) the Suburban side are due to entertain AFC Wimbledon Reserves in the quarter-final of the Suburban League Cup, which will see the winners entertaining either Woking Reserves or Chessington & Hook Reserves in the semi-final. Ashford’s record in the Suburban League Cup is not exactly illustrious and without checking back too far, this is already one of our best years in it. It will be an interesting match though, as Wimbledon teams are always strong whilst Ashford will be playing reserve football for the first time under the stewardship of Ben Murray. With the Under 18’s due to play on Monday plus the need to provide some football for one or two who have been warming the bench recently, the Ashford squad may be a little more experienced than has been the case recently with reserve games but that remains to be seen. Hopefully, with an easing of the wet weather that has dogged matches recently, both games will go ahead but any postponements will be put on the web site as soon as possible. Changing the subject, would all arrow throwers please note that a further darts match against Staines Lammas has been confirmed for Monday 22 March.
