The Annual General Meeting of Ashford Town (Middlesex) Football Club took place on Wednesday evening and was an extremely positive evening, despite the Ash Trees having suffered relegation in the season just finished. Outgoing Chairman Bob Parker thanked his committee and commented on how much he had enjoyed his twenty-eight years in the chair, making many friends in the process. The other officers' reports also highlighted a number of positive developments around the club, including the Short Lane 2020 project. An application has been lodged for a substantial grant to assist with this which in due course will see major improvements at the Club.
Those officers standing for re-election were all returned unopposed, with several new officers elected into position. Alan Cox assumes the role of Chairman, with Bob Parker taking Mr Cox's old seat as Vice-Chairman. John Warrington was elected to the new post of General Manager, with Sue Cox taking up the position of Treasurer. There were also changes to the committee, with Tory Cox, Mark Davis, Peter Howes, Stuart Lloyd and Terry McAllan all retiring at the end of their terms, with supporter Dan Butler, former manager Dave Baker, Gary Jeffreys and current player Paul Burgess all being elected as new members. The members also agreed in principle to convert the club into a company limited by guarantee (that is, one without shareholders), although this is a process that will take several months and will have to be confirmed by an Extraordinary General Meeting in due course. The final action of the meeting was the adoption of a proposal from the floor that the club's headquarters be renamed in honour of the outgoing chairman. Therefore, the ground shall henceforth be known as The Robert Parker Stadium, a fitting tribute to the man without whom the club would never have enjoyed the years of success that it has.
