We are very pleased to be able to announce that our friends and neighbours Staines Town will be visiting The Robert Parker Stadium for the Lord of Ashford Bowl, presented by Russell Grant, on Saturday 31 July. A second Ashford team will also make the trip to Bedfont Sports on the same day.
A reserve team will also travel to last season’s Surrey Intermediate Cup winners, Virginia Water on Saturday 7 August.
Further friendlies will be announced shortly.
Yesterday’s news concerning Craig Ross may have been premature in that sustained efforts are being made to persuade our excellent young keeper to stay at Short Lane. An Ashford spokesman said “we can’t stop players leaving the club and at the moment one club in the Ryman League seems to be cherry picking them one by one. It’s all part of football though and they’re not breaking any rules. We hope now though, that with Billy Jeffreys newly installed as club captain and Paul Burgess on the management team, there will be no further departures. With some exciting new signings to be revealed in due course, we anticipate having a team fully equipped to compete and do well in the Southern League next season.”
