A superb team performance saw Ashford Town (Middlesex) defeat Bradford City 3-0 at the Robert Parker Stadium this evening. The Ash Trees took the lead in the 13th minute, when defender Russell Canderton drove home from the edge of the box. An end to end first half ended with the home side a goal to the good, with the advantage doubled a minute after the break, Jamie Lawrence (pictured) taking advantage of hesitancy by Bantams keeper Lloyd Saxton to scramble the ball home. Bradford boss Peter Taylor made nine changes just after the hour, with the fresh legs briefly causing Ashford a problem. However, stout defending, coupled with outstanding goalkeeping from both starting stopper Lee Pearce and substitute Dane Buss kept the Bantams at bay. Ashford made a series of changes of their own and one of these bore fruit in spectacular fashion when Scott Todd, back at Ashford on trial, made it 3-0 with a superb individual effort. However, all twenty players used by Ashford should take their share of the credit for an outstanding match and result. A full match report from Terry Ryan will follow.
