Ashford’s next pre-season match comes up on Tuesday evening when they make the short trip to meet Chertsey Town at their Alwyns Lane ground. Please note that kick-off is 7.45 p.m. and not 7.30 as mistakenly advised to some people last week.
There are helpful directions upon Chertsey’s web site in case anyone does not know the location of the ground and these are reproduced below:
DIRECTIONS BY ROAD FROM M25 • Leave M25 J11 sign posted Chertsey. • On leaving the motorway take A317 (St. Peter’s Way) sign posted Weybridge. • At the next roundabout take 1st exit sign posted Chertsey. • Stay in the left hand lane and turn left at the traffic lights into Eastworth Road. • At the mini roundabout turn right into Free Prae Road, this will bear left into Pound Road. • At the junction at the end of the road turn left into London Street. • Straight on at the next mini roundabout. • Go past Ye Olde Swan Pub and turn left just after that into Alwyn’s Lane.
DIRECTIONS ON FOOT FROM CHERTSEY TRAIN STATION
On foot from the railway station, walk out of the station car park near the taxi ranks, turn left and head up Guildford Street. At the end of Guildford Street (with the church in front of you) turn left into London Street. Walk along past Ye Olde Swan Pub and then Left into Alwyns Lane.
For Sat Nav users, our Post code is KT16 9DW
Chertsey are members of the Combined Counties League, in which they finished second last season and once again they will be one of the favourites to win promotion to either the Ryman or Southern League at the end of the season.
It was for Chertsey that the Bamford brothers left us a couple of seasons ago somewhat controversially but that is water under the bridge now and we look forward to re-acquainting ourselves with our near neighbours, whom we last met in April 2008 when two goals from Byron Harrison and one from Jon Palmer enabled us to record a narrow 3-2 win in the semi-final of the Southern Combination Challenge Cup.
