Ashford can now officially welcome several new players to the Club as Jamie Lawrence’s squad continues to take shape. Signing on last night were Jim Mann, a central defender, previously with Whitchurch FC, Arafat Kabuye,a pacy wide player, Jordan Kiffin, who has previously played for the likes of Fisher Athletic, Croydon Athletic and Chatham Town and left back Rico Morris who was so impressive against Bradford City. Three more of last season’s Under 18 players have also signed senior forms, namely Mark Bitmead, Joe Green and Jamie Pearce, the last two still being eligible for this season’s Under 18’s.
Terms have also been agreed with Godalming Town for the transfer of Jamal Fenelon, a striker with plenty of experience at higher levels.
It can be confirmed that Brian Haule has left the Club after apparently receiving an offer from Hemel Hempstead that he felt unable to turn down. Brian made forty-one appearances in Ashford colours, scoring twelve goals. Davis Haule, as most supporters are aware, failed to turn up for the friendly at Chertsey on Tuesday and is unlikely to play for the Club again.
Ashford now look forward to the visit of Staines Town on Saturday, although a few players will still be missing, in particular Billy Jeffreys who has not yet recovered from the knock he took against Bradford. New striker Kane Louis is close to fitness again but may not be risked tomorrow.
There is news of players who played for Ashford last season. Femi Ilensamni, who was on loan from Dagenham & Redbridge, has been given a 3 year deal by the Essex club but has been loaned out for the new season to Histon, whilst Jermaine McGlashan is understood to have also made the jump into full time football, with a one year deal from Aldershot. Although Jermaine hardly covered himself in glory by failing to turn up for our crucial relegation match against Canvey last season, it is water under the bridge now and we would like to wish him and Femi every success within the professional ranks.
Membership Secretary Mick Tilt has organized a 20/20 cricket match against Ashford Cricket Club to take place on Monday 9 August, with a 6.00 p.m. start at the Cricket Club. If there are any budding cricket players within the Football Club, they need to present themselves to Mick as soon as possible!
Finally a large batch of tangerine and white scarves has arrived today and these will be available for purchase at the ground tomorrow in good time for the winter months.
