Ashford make the short trip along the M40 this evening to meet Beaconsfield SYCOB for the first time since the 2005-06 season, that being the only year when the clubs have previously met in a competitive fixture. Ashford managed to do the double in that season, winning by three goals to one at home, courtesy of strikes from Scott Todd, Ryan Lake and Anthony Eggington, and by two goals to one at Beaconsfield, thanks to goals from Todd and Ricky Wellard. Scott Todd, incidentally, after playing in the friendly against Bradford, is understood to have joined Walton & Hersham FC.
There are likely to be one or two familiar faces around though, with the Bamford brothers having signed for Beaconsfield from Chertsey in the close season, although only Gavin played for them on Saturday. The home side also suffered defeat on Saturday, losing by a solitary goal away to Arlesey Town, scored on the stroke of half-time. Kick-off is 7.45 p.m.
On Wednesday, the Under-18’s continue their pre-season preparations when they take on their equivalents from Chertsey Town, in a friendly at Addlestone Leisure Centre, kick-off 6.30 p.m.
There is a match at Short Lane this week, when Ashford’s new tenants, Staines Lammas, entertain Eversley FC on Tuesday evening in their first home match of the season. Lammas picked up all three points in a close encounter at Farnborough North End on Saturday and are likely to have a few ex-Ashford players on show.
