Ashford travel to Marlow on Saturday and should take the field with confidence, on the back of two solid wins over the Bank Holiday weekend. Marlow though, whose assistant manager is ex-Ashford player Steve Croxford and a very popular one to boot, will prove doughty opponents, having won two and lost one of their three matches to date. They sit one place in front of Ashford in the table but have played a game less.
It will be Ashford’s first visit to Marlow for five seasons although the two clubs have met before in both the Ryman and the Southern Leagues. The last clash was in the 2005-2006 season, when, for good measure, there were three matches. In the League, Ashford managed a win at home by the only goal of the game, scored by Paul Johnson, but lost by two goals to nil in the return at Marlow. Ashford did manage to win at Marlow that season though, in the FA Trophy when a narrow 2-1 victory, courtesy of goals from Adam Foulser and Gavin Smith saw them through to an away match at Rushall Olympic in the next round.
