In what might prove to be the final tournament of the season Ashford Town Under13s were at it again. This tournament (Maidenhead Boys) was a success not just because of the win, but also because of the young men that achieved it. With the Town team being split into two sides next year (Town and Youth) changes have been made which have proven to be difficult for people to understand. But, if the performance of some of the individuals in this tournament do not justify some of those decisions then nothing will. Being able to play more often will begin to give some of the boys the confidence they need to be able to demonstrate their talents for all to see.
Ashford Town Youth got off to a great start with Jay Tsamplakos walking through the Maidenhead team from the Kick Off, this has to be one of the quickest goals I have seen in football. However, Maidenhead equalised with the last kick of the game. The next game the boys dug deep to get a 0 – 0 draw, but with points awarded for goals and 5 points for a win, the success that finally came was a long way off. Then a 1 – 0 victory lifted the confidence and from that point on the boys really settled and thoroughly deserved the Tournament win. The Town team got knocked out in the quarter finals and rallied around their team mates and together celebrated a significant victory for the Youth team. These boys have nothing to prove to the management team but had to prove to themselves that with a positive spirit (tested early on) that they ought to have a good season next year. Players were. Brannon Daly, Tommy Knox, Stevie Rutland, Benny Coff, Jack Campbell, Elliot Bernath, Ricky Sayer and Jay Tsamplakos. If it proves to be the final curtain of the season then the 13s can be proud of their 2 Semi Finals, 1 Runners Up and 3 Wins through the summer tournament season.
