It’s back to the League on Saturday for Ashford as they make the fairly short trip to Northwood. Ashford will need their recent excellent away form as Northwood have a current three place advantage in the league table having accumulated seven points more than ourselves. Our opponents’ recent form shows no wins in their last three matches but prior to that they had pulled off two very creditable results, winning 3-1 at Bedworth and 3-0 at Uxbridge. Perhaps, rather like us, they reserve their best performances when on their travels. We played Northwood at home in the very first match of the season and managed a narrow victory by three goals to two, courtesy of Tom Kanek, with two, and Dan Brown. Last season both matches were drawn, a goalless affair at Short Lane and a 2-2 draw at Northwood, ours coming from Isiah Rankin and Jones Awuah, now at Hendon and Burgess Hill Town respectively as far as we are aware. Kick off is at 3.00 p.m. as normal and the entry price at Northwood is £8 (£4 concessions and Under-16’s free). Northwood’s excellent web site can be found at http://www.northwoodfc.com/index1.html and the address of the ground is Northwood Park, Chestnut Avenue, Northwood, Middlesex, HA6 1HR. News has come through that Staines Town have lost their appeal against being removed from the Middlesex County Youth Cup, after failing to play their tie against Enfield Town on the prescribed date. The upshot for our Under-18’s is that we now have to play away to Enfield Town next Wednesday (25th), with the scheduled league match at Northwood incidentally, this coming Monday being postponed. Enfield are now playing at a new ground so we will put directions on the web site over the next two or three days. It was good of Staines to let us know directly whilst wishing us good luck against Enfield. Assuming the County web site is correct, Hillingdon Borough will entertain Harefield United in the other semi-final on the same evening. Back to the seniors, and the match between North Greenford and Enfield Town in the Middlesex Charity Cup is also scheduled for next week, on Tuesday 24th January, so we should at last find out who we will entertain in the quarter-final. The eventual winners will be at home to either Hanworth Villa or Rayners Lane in the semi-final. Finally here are Sunday’s junior fixtures from Kelvin P.
