Leighton Town are tomorrow’s visitors from Bedfordshire and will arrive at Short Lane in sixteenth place in the table having won seven, drawn seven and lost twelve of their twenty-six matches to date. That leaves them just five points behind ourselves but they have a match in hand. Their fairly low position in the table is deceptive though and can largely be put down to a poor start to the campaign, which saw them winning just two league matches in the first three months. They have done much better in recent months and in January have two solid 1-0 home wins under their belt against Biggleswade Town and Daventry Town respectively, these being followed by a 0-3 reverse away at Rugby and then, last Saturday, a draw one apiece at home to AFC Hayes. We travelled to Leighton early in the season and managed to win a close affair by three goals to two, ours coming from Jack Mullan, Mark Bitmead and Dan Brown. Last season though, both results, at home and away, saw us on the wrong end of 0-3 defeats. Overall, there have been just eight competitive matches between the clubs, the first game being an FA Cup tie in 1997, resulting in four wins apiece. Ashford no longer have the services of Kiri Takahiro but on the opposite side of the coin Alex Duffy is back from holiday and very much in contention, after settling in well following his recent arrival at the Club. Kick-off as usual is at 3.00 p.m.
