We have heard from Staines that this evening’s match should go ahead. Please note that kick-off is 7.30 p.m. We now know that our opponents in the semi-final of the Aldershot Senior Cup will be Farnham Town, who walloped Four Marks FC by eight goals to one last night, whilst in the Middlesex Charity Cup Enfield Town won by four goals to two at North Greenford yesterday evening, so it will be Enfield visiting Short Lane in that competition. Whoever wins out of ourselves and Enfield, will have a home time in the semi-final against Rayners Lane FC, who drew last night at Hanworth Villa and then won 6-5 on penalties. Our Surrey Senior Cup Quarter Final game away to Woking has been fixed for Monday 13 February. We hope to have dates for the other games by the weekend. Also, Guernsey won a hard fought match at Egham Town last night in the CCL League Cup by 5 goals to 2 aet, as a result of which Guernsey will be making a return visit to Short Lane to play Staines Lammas in the quarter final of the competition, date to be arranged. In the meantime, here are the junior results from Sunday plus summary from Kelvin P Under 10s 1 v 3 Epsom & Ewell Under 10s 0 v 7 Kew Park Under 11s 8 v 1 Hythe Under 11s 5 v 1 Feltham Youth Under 11s 1 v 0 Meadow Under 12s 0 v 0 Carshalton Under 13s 2 v 5 Kingswood Under 14s 4 v 4 Worcester Park Under 15s 3 v 0 St Francis Sports Under 15s 4 v 3 AFC Brooklands Under 16s 5 v 2 Chertsey Under 18s 2 v 1 Westside Overall a very successful week for the juniors – although obviously the Under 13s will be disappointed with losing the cup semi-final. So to the 18s with at last a squad beginning to compete for places and facing top of the league Westside, Ashford were quietly confident that they might cause an upset and so it proved to be. Westside started strongly and had quite a swagger about them, no doubt partly due to the league position and the fact that they had picked up on the fact they were playing a team of Under 17s. After a shaky 5 minutes Ashford quickly got into an organised and disciplined pattern of play that resulted in numerous chances one finally being taken by the hardworking Jordan Phillips. Westside rarely got out of their half and Ashford at last were playing football with confidence something we hadn’t seen recently. The 2nd half started the same way and it looked as though Westside had nothing more to give when Lee Worley smashed in a fine volley at an acute angle into the top corner 2 – 0. But as is so often the case the killer goal never came and as Ashford tired Westside came into it and with a long ball down the middle splitting Ashford’s Centre backs they were suddenly back in the game. Westside decided that they would use every tac tic possible to get back on level terms with some absolutely shameful diving. One such incident though was appalling and was a clear and deliberate attempt to get another player sent off, thankfully the ref didn’t buy it. That said how the ref didn’t give a 2nd yellow to this player who was “at it” all game was beyond belief. The whistle finally blew with some 8 minutes added and Ashford got the victory they thoroughly deserved.
