Ashford Town were unable to secure victory in either match played on Tuesday evening. In their final pre-season match, Mark Butler's senior squad led 2-0 early in the match at home to Oxford City thanks to goals from Jon Palmer and Adam Logie. However, the Southern League side pulled one back through Fauconbridge before half time and then equalised with a Baird finish in the second period. Byron Harrison fired Ashford 3-2 ahead less than a minute later, although City deservedly levelled with five minutes remaining thanks to a header by Gunn.
The match report is here. While all that was going on at Short Lane, a young Ashford Town XI were defeated 2-0 by Combined Counties League side Westfield. The Surrey side start their League campaign at the weekend and fielded their strongest available side. The Tangerines were below par in the first half and allowed their hosts to dominate possession but could stilll count themselves a little unfortunate to turn around at the break 2-0 down, thanks to one spectacular goal and a well-worked move. However, Ashford's mixture of youngsters and triallists performed much better in the second period and were perhaps unfortunate not to win the game, with youngster Jimmy Stanford denied by three fine saves and a number of good chances created. The match report is now online. The Under-18 team are the next in action, entertaining Cobham in a pre-season match on the Training Pitch, kick-off is 6.30pm and entrance is free.
