The double-header against Chipstead ended in disappointment as a profligate Ashford Town squad went down to a 1-0 defeat at High Road in the Southern Combination Challenge Cup Final.
Reports suggested that the Tangerines had more than enough chances to win the match, yet were undone by a second half set-piece. To run salt into the wound, Ashford Secretary Alan Constable was prevailed upon to present the trophy, in his role as Vice-Chairman of the competition. Terry Ryan's match report is here. Back at Short Lane, it was little better, with the two sides battling to a 1-1 draw. The second strings of the two clubs struggled to find any rhythm amid the wind and rain, with Ashford's Anthony Reid going closest to scoring in a dour first half. It was Reid who opened the scoring for Town with an opportunistic goal after 55 minutes. With the wind and rain wreaking havoc upon the Training Pitch at Short Lane, the visitors had their own opportunities and scored thanks to a scrappy goal six minutes from time. A match report of sorts is now online.
