After Saturday's 5-1 win over Billericay Town, Club Patron Ray Dorset took a moment to chat to the Official Website about the game, as well as what the future holds, with the Tangerines very much a part of the Mungo Jerry masterplan.
Ray was delighted to be described as a lucky omen, quipping "Don't you normally win by that many?" before adding that he had enjoyed the game and complementing the facilities at Short Lane: "It's a nice spot, I liked it here. I enjoyed watching the planes go over and the sun go down during the game. It's been relaxing." Ray has indicated that he will definitely be watching Ashford again soon. "I was looking at the programme and it doesn't look like I can make a home game before the end of the year, so I might try to get to an away game."
Ray was equally enthusiastic about wanting to help promote the club. We cheekily asked him if he'd play a benefit gig on the Short Lane pitch: "There's every chance! We're going to sort out a song - I've been trying to think about all the things to do with Ashford and put it together. I did a song for Newcastle, one for Wigan and one for St Helen's Rugby League Club with Johnny Vegas. And we got the Portsmouth FA Cup song this year, so now I've got to do one for Ashford!" Fans of the Mungo Jerry sound are unable to see the band play in this area at present, as Ray can "pick and choose" his gigs these days, but there is a new album coming out, entitled Cool Jesus. The album will be released at the end of January and will be available online through all of the usual portals and via the online shop at http://www.mungojerry.com.
