The Under-18’s are in Southern Youth league action tonight Thursday 23rd), away to Hayes & Yeading FC. Unlike the FA Youth Cup match a few weeks ago, this evening’s encounter will be at The Warren, the previous home of the now defunct Yeading FC and kick-off is at 7.45 p.m. Ashford still have their 100% record in the League this season, their only defeat of any kind coming at the hands of Hayes & Yeading who knocked them out of the FA Youth Cup recently by 2 goals to 1, after extra time. Ashford are currently second in the table, behind Camberley Town who have also won all their league matches but have played one more than Ashford. Hayes & Yeading are in 4th place with three wins and two defeats. Ashford’s Under-18’s face two cup ties in the coming weeks: on Wednesday 10 December they will be at home to Walton & Hersham in the 2nd Round of the Ryman Youth Cup. This competition may be a useful yardstick as Ashford consider the advantages or otherwise of transferring to the Ryman League Youth section for next season. The following week, although we do not have the day yet, the Under-18’s are due to be away to Northwood in the 2nd Round of the Middlesex County Senior Youth Cup. There are one or two other dates to announce: on Saturday 20 December there will be a karaoke evening, organised by Sue and Tracey, to take place in the evening, after the home match against Heybridge. Then on the following day, Sunday 21 December, the annual match between the Under-14’s and whoever we can cobble together as a Vets team, under the astute managership of Pat Munns,(pictured) will take place, kicking off at 11.30 a.m. and that will be followed in the afternoon by the Christmas Draw, the tickets for which will be distributed very shortly. The 1st Team take on Maidstone on Saturday and there will be further details on that game tomorrow. There will definitely be a coach running though, the meet time at Short Lane being 10.30 a.m.
