Jon Palmer's late strike gave Ashford Town (Middlesex) a 3-2 victory over Woking in the Surrey Senior Cup Final tonight. Roared on by a vociferous support, the Tangerines weathered an early storm from the Conference side and took a 25th minute lead through a superb solo effort from Byron Harrison. However, the Cardinals equalised almost immediately through Charlie Moone and Harrison then had to go off with an injury, to be replaced by Palmer.
The professional club then took the lead through a spectacular free kick from Giuseppe Sole early in the second half but Ashford dug deep and equalised through a wonderful strike from Ricky Wellard. Ashford took the game by the scruff of the neck after that and regained the lead through Palmer's effort. Although Woking fought hard to equalise, Town stood firm to lift the trophy, sparking emotional scenes at Imber Court. A report and reaction will follow.
