The final match to be played at Short Lane this season takes place on Tuesday evening when Ashford Town's Under 18s welcome Sutton United to Short Lane.
Having won the West Division of the Southern Youth League back on April 22nd, Mick Snowden's squad now take on United and South Division champions Three Bridges for the overall League Championship. Their mission is a simple one: beat both teams, and the Championship Shield returns to Ashford for the second successive season. However, that mission will be a difficult one to execute: Sutton won all fourteen of the League matches they managed to play, with games against Greenwich Borough and Epsom & Ewell left unplayed and also reached the Final of the League Cup, losing 3-1 to rivals Croydon on their own ground last Thursday. Three Bridges were also in action last Thursday, defeating East Grinstead Town 2-1 to secure the South Division title. They will provide Ashford's second opponents in the Play-Offs, but because their ground is unavailable, this match will be played at Sutton United on Monday 18th May, presumably with a 7.45pm kick-off. The final match sees the Sussex side return to Gander Green Lane - this time as the visitors - on Friday 22nd May. While the other sides in the tournament have the sharpness that comes from playing, Ashford's youngsters will have the benefit of having had some valuable recovery time at the end of what has been a long and demanding season. Tuesday's game is the final home match in charge for veteran manager Mick Snowden and we would be delighted if our supporters turned out in force to support a group of young men who have represented the club admirably all season long. Kick off is at 7.45pm and admission is £3 for adults, £1 for Children, OAPs and Students.
