Ashford Town Under 14s came home with the silverware in their first tournament of the season this past Sunday at Whiteknights, Reading.
The 6-a-side tournament season has now started for the juniors and in their first of the season, the Under 14s with the management team of Kelvin Poulter and Ben Murray fantastically got both their teams entered into the final to play each other, knowing that the trophy was going to be taken on a trip home to Short Lane. Both teams combined only conceded two goals in the tournament all day, with goalkeeper Brannon Daly keeping a clean sheet in eight matches. In the quarter finals the lads defeated Flackwell Heath A and B's sides and in the semi-finals both teams defeated strong Reading Rangers sides, who, as expected, provided the biggest tests of the day. High on the lists of goalscorers for the day were Ryan Marklew and Josh Hughes, while Jonathan Aspin provided the goal of the day with a sublime header into the top corner following a great switch pass from all of 30 yards.
A great achievement to win the event as it is at any tournament, but getting both teams entered into the final of the competition is a credit to the players in this talented side.
