There is to be a “farewell” evening at the Club on Friday 26 June from 7.30 p.m. onwards, for the four devoted club servants who stepped down at the end of the season, namely Paul Burgess, Pat Munns, (pictured) Mick Snowden and Glynn Stephens. All four have given marvellous service to Ashford, in Pat’s case stretching back to the 1960’s, and it is hoped that both present and past members of the Club will make the effort to attend on that evening, when there will be a buffet etc. This can be taken as a general invite to anyone associated with all or any of the four who would like to come down to wish them well in the future.
Don’t forget that this forthcoming weekend (Sat-Sun 13-14 June) will be a busy one at the Club, with the Junior Tournament stretching over two days. With Port Talbot FC from Wales having entered several teams in the various age brackets, there is an “international” feel to the occasion and everyone is welcome to join the fun. Also, on Saturday, as Ashford continue to foster community relations, they will be welcoming members of the Stanwell Branch of the Surrey Care Group to the Club and there will be stalls, barbecue and a little bit of music, so once again everyone is welcome to join in.
The Surrey Care Group will also be having a pool party at the Club on Sunday 23 August.
In a busy period all the Lions matches will be showing at the Club and, providing the first one goes well, brunches will be available courtesy of Tracey (Bessent).
Back to the senior football and Mark Butler will be announcing his line-up probably on Friday of this week, when a new Reserve Team manager will hopefully be named along with the Under-18 appointments.
Other exciting news is that we now have the nucleus of a girls’ team up and running and they should be competing at U-10 level next season.
There is a lot of pre-season maintenance and repair work to be done at the Club, which will include new carpeting and re-decoration of the club house. Anyone who can lend a hand is asked to contact the Club on 01784 245908.
Final news is that control of the bar is being handed over at the beginning of July to Mark Davis and Sue Cox who will run it between them to give Chairman Bob Parker a well deserved rest . One of the first initiatives will be the return of Draft Guinness to the Club as soon as possible
