A number of additional players have now committed themselves to Ashford Town (Middlesex) FC for the new season. Defenders Vinny O'Sullivan, Ricardo Joseph, Russell Canderton, Billy Jeffreys, Guy Hollis and Brett Cooper will be donning Tangerine & White next term, while there is also the possibility that Darren Deegan (pictured) might also take part in pre-season after recovering from a broken leg sustained at Maidstone United in April 2008. Midfielders Adam Logie, Paul Johnson and Scott Weight have also nailed their colours to the mast, along with forwards Gavin Smith, Scott Harris and John Palmer. Also on board are the promising youngsters who emerged towards the end of the last campaign, including Danny Byron, Nick Hardy and George Baldock. Negotiations are continuing with both Warren Harris and Byron Harrison, although Mark Butler feels more optimistic about securing their services. As has been mentioned previously, a confirmed departure is goalkeeper Paul Burgess. Mark Butler confirmed that he had "tried constantly" to keep the veteran stopper at the club, offering both playing and coaching roles, but that "Burgo" has indicated that he needs a fresh challenge. However, Mark saw the end of an era as an opportunity: "The situation has enabled us to speak to Clark Gooding, who has been playing for Egham Town. Clark has been invited to pre-season training and is very positive about coming down and challenging Craig Ross for the number one jersey."
