Long-serving
goalkeeper Paul Burgess is to be honoured with a testimonial. "Burge" is
an Ashford legend, having joined the club in 1990 and having played an integral
part of the club's journey from the Combined Counties League to the Ryman League
Premier Division. The stopper also happens to be a lifelong Tottenham
Hotspur fan, which is why a match with the Spurs Legends seemed an appropriate
event to honour him!
The match will take place on Sunday 27th
September at Short Lane Stadium, with a 2.00pm kick-off. Further
details will be announced in due course.
The Spurs Legends side will potentially include any of
the following: Mark Falcao, Tony Galvin, Les Boughey, Perry Suckling, Andy
Edmonds, Mark Stimson, Mark Robson, Steve Smart, Richard Cooke, Trevor
Wilkinson, Tim O’Shea and Danny Hill, Ralph Coates, John Pratt, Dennis
Bond, Garry Brooke, Micky Hazard and Steve Sedgley.
In addition to this match, we hope to stage other
events to commemorate Paul's two decades at the club, but no further details
will be announced until these are confirmed.
Ironically, we spoke to Paul about his
decision to continue playing before confirmation of the match came
through! (We promise that he does know about the game
though!) The interview is available via
this link or played as a streaming
MP3 file using the built-in player, below.
