Ashford Town (Middlesex) had plenty of possession in their Ryman League Premier Division match with Maidstone United this afternoon, but an inability to use the territorial advantage saw the Tangerines slump to a 2-0 home defeat. In a first half notable for its dullness, the only excitement came from Maidstone's James Pinnock, who gave his side the lead in the 29th minute when he scored from the rebound of a parried shot. Thankfully, the game improved in the second half, with Ashford playing at a much higher tempo. The Ash Trees should have been awarded a penalty in the 51st minute, after Stones left-back Jermaine Darlington clearly handled the ball on the line. However, neither referee Mr Kendall nor his assistant Mr Sage deemed this worthy of further action. Ashford pushed for an equaliser, with Byron Harrison, Brian Haule and Paul Johnson all having good opportunities, but the decisive goal went to United's Matthrew Wright, whose clinical finish settled the match.
