A 0-2 defeat at Bognor Regis Town ensured that Ashford’s winless run continued on Tuesday evening. It can sometimes be too convenient to lay the blame upon injuries and unavailability but with both Ricardo Joseph and Vinnie O’Sullivan joining those already on the injury list plus the unavailable Adam Logie and Scott Harris, it was certainly a patched up side that took the field. Hopefully one or two will recover in time for Saturday, including Warren Harris who is now back in full training following his knock against Hendon.
Ashford had their chances, particularly in the first half but were unable to make any count and Bognor, certainly not looking a bottom of the table side, came more and more into it. Neither keeper had been terribly troubled though until Bognor made the break through in the 62nd minute following a free kick awarded against Brett Cooper. A second goal followed soon afterwards and despite a fierce effort from sub Jon Palmer in the closing minutes, well turned over by Bognor keeper Pernecky, Ashford rarely looked as if they would retrieve the situation.
To compound a miserable evening, the Suburban side were well beaten 0-5 away at Sutton United in the Surrey Premier Cup.
Doubtless the uncertainty over the manager’s position has been a factor in recent matches but with three more candidates to be interviewed this evening, it is anticipated that the new man will be named at some stage tonight. The news will appear on the web site as soon as possible tomorrow morning and hopefully the appointment will instantly re-ignite a season that has been threatening to go flat following recent events.
It became too late to announce the new signing mentioned yesterday but we can now confirm that the very promising Abdula Nsubuga has joined us on dual registration forms with Hayes and Yeading. As an Under 18 player last season Abdula, who generally plays in midfield, was prominent in matches against us and has already appeared in the National Conference for Hayes & Yeading this season.
