You can’t ask for much more than an away win in your first match in charge and that is what the Ashford players served up for new manager Jamie Lawrence at Harrow Borough yesterday. Ashford were able to bring back both Warren Harris and Ricardo Joseph into the opening line up and this made for a considerable threat down both flanks, with Harris a particular threat in the early stages whenever he received the ball.
Indeed it was all Ashford in the early stages and they went ahead on thirteen minutes when a cross from Russell Canderton was scrambled home by Brian Haule to mark his first league goal for the Club, against another of his old clubs. The visitors continued to play well and Byron Harrison outpaced the defence on the stroke of half time to double the lead.
Play was more even in the second period but just after the hour mark, in an isolated incident, Davis Haule received his marching orders and Ashford were immediately on the back foot. Brian Haule was withdrawn to leave Harrison foraging alone up front as Ashford sat back to defend their lead. Harrow duly pulled one back through skipper Wayne Walters with twenty minutes left to play but the ten men held firm to record their third away win of the season and rise to 12th place in the table. Full report to come from Terry Ryan.
To complete a winning day the Suburban side played some excellent football, pulling off a resounding 4-0 success over AFC Wimbledon, thanks to goals from Ben Jones (2), Nathan Turner and Enoch Aojepong-Akosah.
Ashford are next in action on Tuesday evening when they travel to Fleet Town in the League Cup but the Suburban match away to Basingstoke Town on Wednesday is postponed as the ground is unavailable.
