A busy week beckons and it will be the Under-18’s who get the action going this evening (Monday) when they travel to play Hayes & Yeading in the Ryman Youth League. This will be the third meeting with H & Y this season, following a home draw in the League and a 0-3 reverse in the Middlesex County Youth Cup, although that last result did not really reflect a game that had been very even until the final five minutes or so.
Nevertheless Hayes & Yeading are always strong at youth level, running several teams, but Ashford will arrive as league leaders and keen to inflict at least one defeat upon their opponents who can always be expected to play good football.
The match kicks off at 7.45 p.m. and is at Hayes (Church Road) as opposed to the previous match which took place ay Yeading.
Tomorrow evening (Tuesday) both the 1st and the Suburban teams are in action. The 1st Team will be at home to league newcomers Aveley, whom we have not played since the 2000-2001 season and the match will also mark Jamie Lawrence’s first home match in charge. The Essex side made a storming start to life at this level but have tailed off just a little lately and will arrive at Short Lane one point behind the Tangerines, but with two matches in hand.
Hopefully the weather will have eased from the weekend but if it is untoward tomorrow keep an eye on this site as we will arrange a mid afternoon inspection if required, to do our best to prevent any unnecessary travel. Kick off is at 7.45 p.m.
In the meantime the Suburban side are due at Bedfont tomorrow evening in the 2nd Round of the Middlesex Premier Cup, kick-off 7.30 p.m. We received a bye to this stage but Bedfont have already beaten Premier Division opposition in the shape of Northwood in the 1st Round and will certainly be no push overs, having lost just twice in the League this season and sitting in 3rd place in the Suburban North table.
