Ashford needed a late goal from substitute Scott Harris to save a point against Aveley this evening. The Tangerines started brightly and took an early lead after visiting keeper James Marrable punched weakly at a corner and Guy Hollis volleyed home for his first goal for the first team. Jamie Lawrence's side were performing brightly and should have doubled their lead in the 22nd minute when Byron Harrison side footed wide at the end of a flowing move. Harrison and Davis Haule also went close before the Millers were gifted an equaliser in the 31st minute. Craig Ross parried a shot from Matt Johnson, the ball rebounded off the frame of the goal and Martin Tuohy stooped low to head the ball in. Ashford rallied, with Johnson and Harrision going close, but the visitors also had an opportunity to score before the break. The home side continued to play the brighter football against a well-drilled and hard-working Aveley outfit, with Harrison, Brian Haule, Warren Harris and Johnson all having half-chances, while Brian Haule should have scored in the 72nd minute but didn't put enough power into his shot. However, Aveley's direct approach and speedy counter-attacking meant that they had chances of their own, with the best falling to Junior Dadson. Johnson shot at Marrable and then the visitors made the Tangerines pay for their profligacy in the 80th minute when a free-kick was headed across goal and bundled over the line after pinging around the six yard box. With six minutes remaining, a flick header from Harrison hit the post with Marrable beaten and seconds later Brian Haule was withdrawn in favour of Scott Harris. Just two minutes later, the popular striker levelled the match with a deft header. To complete a decent evening for the club, the Reserves won 4-2 at Bedfont to reach the Quarter Final of the Middlesex Premier Cup.
