Two goals in six minutes set Ashford Town (Middlesex) on their way to a 3-0 win against Cray Wanderers this afternoon. The opening stages were fairly even, but Ashford gradually wrested control of the match and took the lead in the 33rd minute when Brian Haule was on hand to convert. Just six minutes later, Warren Harris (pictured) finished smartly from a fine passing move. The Ash Trees finished the first half strongly, but failed to add to their tally. The Wanderers had the better of the third quarter of the game, but squandered a series of chances and were made to pay for their wastefulness in front of goal in the 75th minute. A well-struck Paul Johnson corner was headed into his own net by Cray defender John Guest. After that, both sides had chances to score but Ashford saw the game out to move back into the top half of the table.
