An unusually quiet midweek beckons with only the Under-18’s in action and that will be on Wednesday evening when they entertain neighbours Staines Town in the Ryman Youth League, kick-off 7.45 p.m. at Short Lane.
Ashford, who have accumulated 20 goals in their five league matches to date, will come into the game unbeaten in the League whilst Staines have lost just the one, a narrow 1-2 defeat at home to Hayes & Yeading in their most recent outing. Both teams saw their matches suffer postponements last week and will doubtless be raring to go on Wednesday, when Ashford will hope to have ace marksman Mark Bitmead back in contention from injury picked up in a Suburban League match recently.
Other news is that after finding opportunities rather limited this season, George Baldock has left the Club to join up with ex Ashford manager Glynn Stephens at Chessington & Hook United and we wish him well with his new club, who, by the Secretary’s count, now have no less than fourteen ex-Ashford players currently on their books.
On Saturday Brett Cooper became the latest player to clock up a ton of 1st team starts and becomes one of six players currently in the 1st Team squad to have achieved this milestone. If he plays this coming Saturday against Tonbridge Angels, Byron Harrison will be marking his 100th 1st team appearance but Vinnie O’Sullivan will have to wait a little longer, as the knock that kept him out last Saturday means he is stuck on 498! Still no mean achievement at the tender age of 27.
Finally, thanks to photographer Andy Nunn, there is a superb set of photos from the Aveley match available to view at http://andy578.fotopic.net/c1782659_1.html
