Although the incessantly wet weather may have a bearing on matters, we are due to have a break from league action on Tuesday evening when we travel to Div One South side Merstham in the 2nd Round of the Surrey Senior Cup. We are, of course, holders of the trophy at present following our beating of Woking in last season’s final, whilst Merstham won it the previous season. Both sides will be keen to make it to the 3rd Round and a trip to either Dorking or Woking themselves.
Ashford supporters who remember playing Merstham in our Combined Counties days and have not been there since will be astounded by the changes that have taken place at the ground since the late 90’s. What was a railed off pitch in a park has been transformed into a modern stadium that does them proud. Ex-Ashford player Wes Goggin is at Merstham this season and has been made their club captain, whilst Jon Hamsher was also there until recently but he has since moved on. Kick off at Merstham is 7.45 p.m.
The Under-18’s are due to be at home to Boreham Wood U18 on Wednesday evening in the 1st Round of the Lucas-Fettes Youth Cup (Youth League Cup) on Wednesday evening, kick-off 7.45 p.m., with the winners drawn at home to Hayes & Yeading in the 2nd Round.
The Suburban side have no match in midweek and did not play on Saturday having travelled to Avenue Park only to find the pitch patently unfit for play with the inevitable postponement being quickly confirmed by the referee upon arrival.
