Egham Town v Ashford Town:

Ashford shuffled the pack again for this FA Trophy away tie with local rivals Egham Town, the early signs where positive and to be fair we should have been three goals to the good in the opening 20 minutes. We allowed Egham to come into the game and within a 20 minute period found ourselves two goals down. Jamie Connor is now showing his potential in midfield after settling in with his new teammates but unfortunately was unable to return after half time with what looked like a back injury, the returning Perry Luckins also added some much needed strength, his comeback needs to be managed to enable his full fitness but the early signs are Perry has made a full recovery.

The appearance of Robbie Sitch in midfield at half time changed the dynamic of the game and he proved a bit of a handful and within minutes his involvement in a fantastic passing move enabled Joe Hughes to unleash a fantastic effort which gave the Egham Goalkeeper no chance. Then came the masterstroke from the management Team the introduction of the returning Cyril Ocansey who’s pace troubled the Egham defence immediately paid dividend and his low drive was spilt by the Egham keeper and found the back of the net.

Game on now and we had Egham on the rails, then a very harsh free kick awarded against Ashford resulted in what was the winning goal yet again.

However the Management Team can take positives from this game as we now look like a Team coming out of the transition period and the belief that we can survive without the legion of players who have left the club for one reason or other is now evident, we certainly did not deserve to lose on Saturday and the response from the boys at the final whistle was a sure sign of how much they gave and wanted this game. Rumour has it there are some more new faces imminent and this can only bolster the squad but they will need to hear your support rather than criticism to be a success.
