Ashford started very well and created the better chances early on forcing some resolute defending from Chertsey. Both sides started knowing that the illusive win was high on the agenda. On 18 minutes a ball between the two central defenders found Ex Ashford striker Tom Pomroy one on one with Tyler Tobin to slot home from to make it 0-1 to the visitors. Ashfords response was nothing less than you would expect with chance after chance, Joe Bennett carved out an oportunity only to see his effort strike the crossbar. What followed was a credit to all the Team as the Away Goalkeeper had to be at his best as he foiled chance upon chance. Chertsey themselves created chances and the improvement defensively over the last couple of games was plain to see by all. Ashford started the second half the stronger Jack Mullan finding himself in goalscoring positions Cyril Ocansey likewise having efforts cleared off the line.As the half progressed it was clear to see the frustration within the ranks, Perry Luckins was dismissed for a second yellow card and amazingly the instigator of it all was left unpunished, for me the behaviour of the Chertsey individual was a discgrace to his club and to here his management Team condoning his actions is even more of a concern. Manager Ben Murray immediatelyrung the changes and it was all out attack until the final whistle which saw another effort cleared from the line. I will write this again and again, I still believe that this side will beat the drop as they are developing more every week and that the side being so young is the problem !! Yes there looks to be a confidence issue in front of goal at times for which is to be expected considering the position we find ourselves in. Believe in these guys and they will deliver, once that first goal is scored in this new era the confidence will blossom throughout the squad. The message is simple " Stay Positive and Believe " and you will gain the rewards.
