Ashford have been drawn at home to Loxwood FC in the 1st Round Proper of the FA Vase, to be played on Saturday 1 November.

Loxwood come from the Billingshurst area of West Sussex and this is their first ever season in the competition.  They had a bye in the 1st Qualifying Round and beat fellow Sussex League side Steyning Town in the 2nd Qualifying Round.  The Club have advanced fairly rapidly from the West Sussex League into the Sussex County League and were promoted from Division Two to Division One at the end of last season after finishing in 3rd place.  In their first season at the top Sussex level they currently sit just below halfway in 12th place having won two, lost two and drawn five of their nine matches to date.

We have never previously met up with our opponents at any level.

Sixteen other CCL clubs are also still in and with three all CCL ties, plus Hanworth Villa who come in at the 2nd Round stage, following their good run last season, the League is guaranteed a minimum of four clubs at the very least in the 2nd Round.  Other ties involving local clubs include Spelthorne Sports, who will travel to Pagham in Sussex, and Chertsey Town who will host Horley Town.   Bedfont Sports are not having too much luck geographically as after travelling to Northants in the previous round, they now go the other way down to Horsham YMCA, whilst  Knaphill go to Lordswood in Kent.

So much for the writer’s theory that we would play a club from Northampton or Bedfordshire as we seem to have been put back in the South East “pot” which is good.
