It’s a big weekend at Short Lane as we look forward to our Christmas match away to AFC Hayes on Saturday.  Relegated, like ourselves, from the Southern League, they struggled at first to find their feet at Step 5 but after going through a recent change of manager, now find themselves on the up, currently sitting in 9th place in the table, and some good form behind them with only one defeat in their last six matches.

That said, Ashford have managed to get the better of their opponents twice already this season, once on the opening day of the season, when a solitary Dan Fleming goal was enough to do the trick, and then again in November when another narrow victory, 3-2, saw us go through in the Middlesex Senior Cup.  Scorers on that evening were Mark Bitmead (2) and Max Webb.

Kick-off on Saturday is at the usual 3.00 p.m. and the address of the ground is Farm Park, Kingshill Avenue, Hayes, Middlesex, UB4 8DD.  There is a large car park.

Off the field, the Club Christmas party will take place on Saturday evening, everyone welcome.  Proceedings commence at 7.00 p.m. and Father Christmas will be making an appearance around 8.00 p.m. and we go on till late.  Please make a mental note now to leave the club quietly.

On Sunday, the annual Christmas Draw takes place, around 2.00 p.m. and tickets at £1 a book can still be purchased.  The Club needs your help to make this annual event a success so please buy a few more tickets if you can and also, if you can donate a prize (any Christmas fare would be fine) please do so.  Ideally we need them sometime on Saturday if you can.  If every single member of the club donated a prize, it would make it our best draw ever.  As it is, we will probably have at least 40-50 prizes, so please be generous if you can.  If you are one of the people still to return your tickets, please do so tomorrow (Saturday).

Christmas will come and go before our next match, which is at home to Windsor on Monday 28 December.  It is still holiday time, of course, and both clubs have agreed to kick off at 1.00 p.m.  We shall be hoping for a sizeable attendance that day against one of the sides in the League who invariably play good football.

Last week’s junior results are to hand, as follows:

Larry U12s 1-0 Spelthorne

Craig U13s 2-3 Croygas

Fin U13s 4-1 Corinthian

Martin U15s 4-3 Ewell Saxons

Ben U15s 0-7 CB Hounslow

Conor U15s 4-4 Wandgas

Carl U17s 2-2 Abbey Rangers

It remains only to thank all our supporters for continuing to support the club this  last year, our players who have given us a lot of pleasure over the last 12 months and, of course, management, committee members, junior members and others who have pitched in to get so much done to ensure that the club can keep going.  Running a senior football club, even at our level, is no easy task and but for everyone who volunteers their services and expertise, it would be a massive struggle.
