Ashford will make the trip to play Sutton Common Rovers tomorrow evening (Monday) in search of further league points.  SCR now play at the ground of Sutton United, the address of which is The Borough Sports Ground, Gander Green Lane, Sutton, SM1 2EY, kick-off 7.45 p.m. (not 7.30 as shown in the programme on Saturday).  The last time Ashford played there, in 2010, they defeated Sutton by four goals to two, in a memorable Ryman League Premier Division match so the ground has happy memories.

It is a bold move by SCR, always an enterprising club, and we certainly wish them well in eventually finding a home of their own.  In the meantime as doubtless, everyone will be aware, Sutton are in the first season of using a 3G pitch and it is important that players ensure they have the proper footwear for the surface, which one would hope would suit Ashford’s passing game very well.

SCR enjoyed an excellent run in this year’s FA Vase, only losing out eventually to Bowers & PItsea in a much delayed match and their conquerors have gone on to reach the semi-final of the competition and may even make the Final.  In the League, SCR currently sit in 15th place with 11 wins and 16 defeats from their 31 matches to date.  This will be our first meeting of the season due to a previous postponement, with the return “leg” to come almost at the end of the campaign.

In the meantime, the Club will be open tomorrow evening as St Marys University Ladies are playing a further friendly at the ground.
