On Sunday we are holding the annual Sri-Lankan Sports Association Festival at the ground, featuring both soft ball cricket and football.  It is invariably a good day out with stalls and Sri-Lankan food available and everyone is very welcome to come along and enjoy the festivities.

Below is an article written By Randi Gunapala to explain  a little bit more about the day and his organisation.

The Sri Lankan Football Organization, UK, is planning to celebrate its fifth anniversary on the 5th of June, 2016 by holding a sports fiesta comprising of a football and softball cricket tournament. The association's main priority has been to raise funds to help with the development of youth football in Sri Lanka. The association has been operating dedicatedly to fulfil this aim during the last five years of the association's functioning. This has been by organising a sports tournament annually and improving its capacity every year to accomplish the organisation's primary goals. The association has achieved successful outcomes so far by organising this event annually, now for the past five years.

The organization initially commenced five years ago simply, by organising a football tournament. However, subsequently, the tournament expanded its events itinerary to include softball cricket since the Sri Lankan community is very intense and keen on this sport. A seven a side softball cricketing event as well as a youth football event were added to the now annually expanding itinerary. The tournament has currently become an extremely enjoyable event held every summer being attended by Sri Lankans of all sorts who participate as a community. The organisation members too, work dedicatedly to promote this event amongst mainly the Sri Lankan community, annually. The organisation's dedicated members include the president - Mr. Jiva De Lambert, secretary - Mr. Ranjith Katuwana, treasurer - Mr. Harsha Pathiranage, sponsorship secretary - Mr. Asoka Welmillage, web and media - Mr. Gajan and the news editor - Ms. Randi Gunapala. An immense appreciation should be shown to the participating teams who participate in the individual events of football, softball cricket and youth football.

From its earliest developments, Duke Court Travels have supported the organization by providing sponsorship and by donating on one occasion, a challenge trophy. Therefore the organization offers its deep-felt appreciation and gratitude to Mr. Anuradha Mudalige and his esteemed colleagues at Duke Court Travels for providing their uninterrupted and continuous support for this tournament and for keeping faith with the organizers.

This year's event will be held at Ashford Town Football Club, Middlesex, TW19 7BH on the 5th of June, 2016, commencing at 9.00 a.m. and winding up by 6.00 p.m. The Ashford Town Football Club members have provided crucial support and they will be arranging and implementing both the cricket and football tournaments. The organization is hoping to award some very exciting prizes to the winners of each individual event.
