Ashford will travel into Bedfordshire for the second Saturday in a row, Arlesey Town being this week’s destination.  The address of the ground is New Lamb Meadow, Hitchin Road, Arlesey, Beds, SG15 6RS.  It is a journey of just under 50 miles via the M25 and the M1, leaving the latter at Junction 10.  These are the more precise directions on Arlesey’s excellent web site:  From M1 South Junction 10, take A1081 Airport Way onto A505 Hitchin Road towards Hitchin. Turn left onto A600 Bedford Road, past Hitchin Town FC, turn right at second roundabout to Ickleford. Go through village, bear left to Arlesey ground which is on the right.

Last week’s hard fought draw at Bedford Town enabled Ashford to climb one place in the table to 7th position, whilst Arlesey currently sit in 16th place, although the season is still far too early to draw any conclusions from that statistic.  Arlesey got off to an indifferent start, losing their opening three league matches but their most recent result shows a 6-1 home win over Petersfield Town, and, like ourselves, they drew at Bedford Town, so a close contest is almost certainly on the cards.

We have played each other in both the Ryman and the Southern League in the past, and also in the FA Cup.  Goals from Scott Harris (2), Byron Harrison and Ricky Wellard (penalty) gave us a 4-1 victory in the FA Cup in season 2008-09 but in league encounters Arlesey are ahead with 4 wins to our 1.  The most recent match between our clubs was on 26 March 2011, when we lost 0-3 at home.  Indeed we have never managed to beat them at home.

Arlesey play in dark and light blue so we will need to be in our normal tangerine kit tomorrow whilst the admission price is £9 (£5 concessions with all U-16’s admitted free of charge).
