Before summarising yesterday evening’s match, I wish to make it clear that the match summaries on this page are meant to be just that, not fully blown match reports.  I have no wish to spend time during games recording every incident as it spoils my enjoyment of the game.  I am sorry that, as a result, they are apparently regarded as tardy.

As to last night we lost the match by the only goal, scored in the third minute of stoppage time in the first half when only two minutes had been signalled and there seemed no reason to go beyond that.  That is typical of what has been happening lately and it came from a rare individual error when Romario Jonas was unfortunate to mistime his header, leading to a goal for Aylesbury’s Horatio Hirst.

Much of the rest of the match was a hard determined performance by both sides, who gave their all.  The general view was that a draw would have been the fairest outcome and we certainly pressed hard for much of the second half, but without finding a real cutting edge.  In many of the matches we have lost recently, we have played some excellent football, such as at Hartley Wintney last week, when a draw was the least we deserved.  Late goals at the end of matches though or at half-time have been our downfall too often but everyone’s view of last night’s match would doubtless have been different if we had sneaked the goal rather than our opponents.  Aylesbury have put a more factual and very fair report upon their website for anyone who wants to read it.

We had two debutants last night.  One was Tom Howard who has not played for a while, but was previously with Met Police and Merstham plus goalkeeper Craig Bradshaw who many supporters recognised from his time at Camberley.  Craig deputised for Tyler Tobin, who had been taken ill in the morning and could do nothing about the goal.  Other than that he was solid as a rock while Tom, who spent a long time at Chelsea as a youngster showed some very skilful touches and looks to be a good acquisition.

We go to Bedford Town on Saturday and there will be more on that one later in the week.

The Under-18’s are due to be at home to Staines Town U18 this evening but the weather may put the game in doubt.  Best check with the club (01784 245908) beforehand.
