Players, officials, supporters and residents gather in opposition to the Kwarteng proposals

The Club Statement issued on Monday 9th July would certainly seem to have had the desired effect, with significant media interest being generated in the apparent threat to our community.  The situation was featured on the BBC Non-League Show the same evening and we would recommend that supporters download the podcast.

The local press also intend to feature the story on their front page and the photo that accompanies this piece is from a hastily-arranged shoot at the ground on Tuesday evening.  The club’s players, officials and supporters were joined by a very encouraging number of local residents who wished to join us in voicing their opposition to the proposed airport expansion.  We were delighted that so many people turned out at short notice in damp conditions and we look forward to building links with local residents’ groups moving forward.

Of course, it must not be forgotten that the new football season is just over a month away and the first pre-season match is next week.  With training now well underway and many of last season’s squad already committed to the club, on-field matters look to be progressing well.

With this in mind, we are delighted to release the latest Tank End Talk podcast, featuring Mick Snowden, Geoff Knock, Louise Munns from the Junior Section and Harry Knock.  Inevitably, there is some reaction to the airport issue but most of the talk in this half-hour show is about football.  You can download it via iTunes, or use the player below.
