Ashford Town (Middlesex) Football Club are delighted to announce that the club has been selected to host an international match between the Great Britain Deaf Football squad and their counterparts from Greece.  The match will take place on Saturday 22nd September and the kick-off time is dependant on the travel arrangements of the Greek side and will be confirmed as soon as possible.  It is hoped, however, that the match will kick-off at the traditional time of 3.00pm. Admission will be £5.00 for adults and £1.00 for children.

A club spokesman said: "We are honoured to be staging this important international match and are delighted that Great Britain Deaf Football have chosen the Robert Parker Stadium.  We hope that our supporters and other local football fans will turn out in force to see what should be an excellent game."

The match is a final qualifier for the 2013 Deaflympics, which will be held in Sofia, Bulgaria.  The Deaflympics have been running since 1924, when they were staged in Paris.  The Games are sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee and run along similar lines to the Olympics and Paralympics, which is why the football involves Great Britain rather than the four home nations. Because of the specific issues facing deaf athletes, the Deaflympics are held separately to the Paralympics.

Great Britain are the most successful football nation in the history of the Deaflympics, having won the gold medal six times, including the first event in Paris in 1924 and the 2005 tournament in Melbourne and will hope to book a trip to Sofia with victory at the Robert Parker Stadium.  However, they will be vary of the Greeks, who defeated Serbia in the first round of qualifying by 4-2.  Great Britain are one of the six seeded teams in the 16 nation European qualifying competition, which ensured them a home draw.  Europe has six places in the 16 team football tournament at the 2013 Deaflympics, so the winners of the six Second Round knockout ties listed below qualify:
