Kee Kee KobusAshford’s first ever ladies’ team took to the field for the first time on Sunday, beating Abbey Rangers at Short Lane in a pre-season friendly by four goals to three.  Lucy Easton scored two, the others coming from Kee-Kee Kobus (pictured) and the returning Nicola Archer, who scored the best goal of the match when she volleyed home a cross from Kirsty Simmonds.  Nicola might have got on the score sheet again but missed a penalty.

Overall though the win should put the girls in good heart for their opening league match next Sunday, away to Islington Borough Ladies.

The men have another busy week of midweek football.  This evening (Monday) the Under-18’s make the short trip to play Camberley Town U18’s.  It won’t be easy though as Camberley are inevitably strong at this level and have made their usual good start, winning both their opening league matches.

There are two matches on Tuesday:  the 1st Team, in good heart and at full strength following two wins without conceding a goal, will be at home in the Evostick Southern League to Fleet Town, kick-off 7.45 p.m.  Fleet opened the season with three consecutive defeats and also lost at home to Marlow in the FA Cup but got their first points on board on Saturday, when they enjoyed an impressive 4-0 home victory over North Greenford United.  We know from all previous meetings that they are always a hard nut to crack.

Also on Tuesday evening, the Suburban side will be travelling to Cobham in the Suburban League Cup, which will be played over two legs.
