The FA Youth CupIt’s not quite such a busy midweek for Ashford, with just the 1st Team and the Under-18s in action this week.

The first match is this evening (Monday) when the Under-18’s travel to meet Hayes & Yeading U18 in the 1st Qualifying Round of the FA Youth Cup, both teams having received a bye in the Preliminary Round.  The prize for the winners will be a 2nd Qualifying Round tie away to either Northwood or Harefield.  We have been drawn against Hayes or Harefield, usually away, very regularly in the past, to the extent that we’ve almost come to expect it!

This evening’s match kicks off at 7.30 p.m. and will take place at AFC Hayes, the ground address being Farm Park, Kingshill Avenue, Hayes, Middlesex UB4 8DD.  Hayes & Yeading are always strong at this level and this season seems no exception with them having gone straight to the top of the Ryman Youth League (West Division) with three wins and a draw from their first three league matches.  Ashford though will be heartened by their performances in the last two matches against Camberley and champions Staines, especially the latter game last Monday, when they came back from three down to secure a draw and coming close to winning the match.

On Tuesday it is the 1st Team who will be in action, paying at home to Burnham in a rare league match sandwiched between all the cup matches.  The last two Tuesday’s matches at Short Lane have been truly exhilarating for Ashford supporters, with 5-0 and 3-0 wins over Fleet and Dunstable and we hope for more of the same.  Burnham are never easy to beat though and will come into the match with a near identical record to Ashford’s having also won three and lost one of their four league matches to date.  We are ahead of them in the table only by virtue of a slightly better goal difference.  Kick off is 7.45 p.m. and after the comprehensive win in the Trophy on Saturday it would be good to see a full turn out of Ashford supporters welcoming the team back to Short Lane..
