Kee Kee Kobus in action against Islington Borough

The Ladies team braved the weather at the Robert Parker Stadium this afternoon, securing their first point of the season by drawing 1-1 with Clapham United.

However, the result was a source of frustration for Ashford, given that the equaliser came with just two minutes left.  Having said that, the draw was probably a fair result, given that Ashford dominated the first half, but were pegged back for long stretches of the second period.

Conditions were atrocious throughout the game, although the pitch sustained no significant damage and the two sides made light of the elements to produce a contest that offered plenty of skill and entertainment.  The Tangerines were the better side throughout the opening 45 minutes and got their reward just before the break, Kee Kee Kobus heading her side ahead.

However, the visitors rallied in the second half, creating several chances.  Ashford’s second half performance was redoubtable and with several players playing out of position or while carrying injuries, worked tirelessly to try to keep their visitors at bay.  Sadly, the Ash Trees were unable to hold out, and Clapham scored a well-worked equaliser in the 88th minute.

There will be a special Tank End Talk podcast covering the game in the next few days.
