Grays AthleticIt’s back to the FA Trophy on Saturday, a competition in which Ashford have enjoyed some notable wins in recent seasons.  The luck of the draw sees us travelling to play Grays Athletic, a club that we have never met at any level in the past, although one or two of our past players have also played briefly for Grays, namely Brett Johnson (loan), Luke Hickie and Tyrone Berry.

Grays are currently members of the Ryman League (Division One North), which is the same level as our own Division.  They moved to a new stadium this season, the address of which is Rush Green Stadium, Rush Green Road, Romford, Essex, RM7 0LU.  The suggested route would be to use the M25, coming off at Junction 28.  It is a shorter distance to use the North Circular (A406) and then the A10 but will probably take longer.

Grays have made a good start to the season, with quite a similar record to ourselves, in that having won a number of matches, they have had a minor blip over their last two games, losing 0-5 at home to Maidstone last Saturday in the FA Cup and then drawing two apiece at home to Soham on Tuesday, having to come from behind to secure a point.  They are currently in third place though in the table.

Admission tomorrow is £8 (£5 OAP’s and £1 U-14’s).  Should the scores be level after 90 minutes, there will be a replay at Short Lane on Tuesday evening.

Grays have put up a very comprehensive pre-match summary on their web site which you can read at

To get to this stage, Grays won 2-1 at Aylesbury in the Preliminary Round whilst we managed a 5-1 scoreline at Walton Casuals.

The Suburban side, having gone second in the table following their win by five goals to two at Dunstable on Tuesday, also travel on Saturday to play Leverstock Green FC, another club that we have never played against.  They play at Pancake Lane, Leverstock Green, Hemel Hempstead, Herts, HP2 4NQ

The Ladies are also on their travels on Sunday when they have quite a long journey to meet Petts Wood Ladies, kicking off at 2.00 p.m.  Petts Wood have a two point advantage in the table having won one and lost one of their two matches to date.  Petts Wood’s ground is at Barnet Wood Road, Keston, Kent BR2 7AA
