The FA TrophyAshford Town (Middlesex) will have to negotiate a replay if they are to make progress in The FA Carlsberg Trophy after a 1-1 draw at two-time winners Grays Athletic.

Town midfielder Ashley Lodge elected to sign for Chipstead in midweek, so was replaced in the starting line-up by Perry Luckins, while Bairoh Conteh returned to the side after missing last weekend's match with St Albans City.

Despite starting brightly, Ashford went a goal behind in the 22nd minute when a long-range free kick from Grays skipper Danny Bunce eluded Paul McCarthy.  The Tangerines withstood spells of pressure from their hosts and levelled the match in the 71st minute when a long throw from Russell Canderton was met by Mark Bitmead, whose looping shot found the far corner.

This was not a game that will linger in the memory, but Ashford's resilience will have pleased the management and the replay on Tuesday will be an intriguing contest.  Normal admission prices apply, but season tickets will not be valid.

The match report from Saturday's fixture is now online.
