AFC HayesAshford resume league action on Saturday with a short trip to meet AFC Hayes.

AFC enjoyed an impressive victory last Saturday, beating Beaconsfield SYCOB by six goals to nil and unlike Ashford have been able to get on with their league matches lately having played eight, winning four and losing four, a record that has taken them to seventh place in the table.  Ashford are three places and three points behind, albeit that they have three matches in hand.  The address of the ground is Farm Park, Kingshill Avenue, Hayes, UB4 8DD.

Last season in the matches between the clubs, Ashford managed to win 2-1 at Hayes, courtesy of goals from Ashley Lodge (pen) and Dan Brown, whilst the match at Short Lane ended goalless.

We can bring you news of an exciting new signing, albeit on loan, in the shape of 19 year old striker Hanif Boyle from Staines Town.  With the valued assistance of Marcus Gayle at Staines, the paperwork is being completed today and Hanif is likely to go straight into the squad tomorrow.  He is an exciting young player with tremendous pace and after impressing in both the Capital League and the Under-18 squad last season, was one of the few younger players to sign a contract with the Swans under Steve Cordery.  Hanif starts with us on a 28 day loan but there is the possibility of extending it for a further two months.  We would very much like to thanks Staines for their assistance in bringing this about.

Further good news is that the Under-18’s won their 2nd Qualifying Round FA Youth Cup match on Thursday evening, by a goal to nil, courtesy of a cool finish by Tom Bovingdon shortly before half-time.  Ashford then missed a penalty a few minutes later when the ball was blazed over the bar.  The match winning goal quite frankly looked offside by some distance to this humble spectator but the assistant was very clear in his view that it wasn’t, so the goal stood.  The match was not one to stir the blood, but the result was the important thing and the lads now find themselves one game away from going into the hat with the Football League sides in the 1st Round Proper.  That match is away to Staines and is likely to be scheduled for Monday 15 October at Wheatsheaf Park.

There is no Suburban League match on Saturday but the Ladies are at home on Sunday to Hackney Ladies, kicking off at 2.00 p.m.

Finally, please remember that all supporters etc. are welcome to attend the club on Wednesday 17 October at 7.00 p.m. when we shall be making  a big and very welcome announcement, prior to the Suburban League match at home to Cobham that evening.
