Chalfont St PeterAn excellent display from the Suburban League team saw them beating Cobham FC in the Suburban League Cup by four goals to nil on Wednesday evening, to secure a 5-0 aggregate victory overall.  The goals came from Nick Hardy (an absolute thunderbolt), Luke Neville, Daniel Johnson and an o.g..  In the 2nd Round of the competition, Ashford will meet either Molesey or Horsham YMCA in another two-legged affair, the former being the favourites as they won the first match at Horsham by two goals to nil.  The second leg of their match is on Saturday.

In the meantime, Ashford will hope to continue their current excellent run of form away on Saturday to Chalfont St. Peter in the Evostick League.  Last season, Chalfont were having problems with their lights so their home match against us was played at North Greenford United.  This will, therefore, be our first match at their ground since November 2000, when we clashed in a Ryman Div 3 match.  On that occasion we managed to win by three goals to two courtesy of goals from Ian Yates, Des Vertannes and Lee Holman.

Last season we lost the match at North Greenford by two goals to one, ours coming from Pietro Palladino and drew nil-nil at home.  Chalfont this season have been enjoying mixed fortunes and have won two and lost two of their last four league matches, beating Chertsey Town and Fleet Town, both at home by two goals to one, and losing away to Guildford City (2-3) and Royston Town (2-4).  In the week they were narrowly defeated in the Red Insure Cup by a solitary goal by Slough Town, scored incidentally by ex-Ashford player Adam Logie.

Chalfont play at Mill Meadow, Gravel Hill, Amersham Road, Chalfont St. Peter, Bucks, SL9 9QX

There is no Suburban game on Saturday but on Sunday, the Ladies are due to entertain Colne Valley Ladies, kick-off 2.00 p.m. and all the Sunday junior fixtures are shown below.

We have to finish on a sad note.  He will not be known to too many current  Ashford people but Alan Freeman died on Wednesday after a long illness.  Alan was a goalkeeper and an Ashford stalwart in the 60’s and early 70’s and we send our condolences to his family.
