Ash UnitedAshford are in action every midweek for the foreseeable future and tomorrow evening (Tuesday) make the trip to play Ash United in the 1st Round of the Surrey Senior Cup, the prize for the winners being an away game against AFC Wimbledon in the 2nd Round.

Ash and ourselves were great rivals throughout our Combined Counties League days and the total sum of previous matches between the clubs, including three friendlies, is 28.  Ashford have enjoyed their fair share of success in those games but on the only previous meeting in the Surrey Senior Cup, back in November 1992, we lost by three goals to two, ours coming from Lee Holman and an o.g.

The most recent meeting between the clubs was on 12 February 2008, when we managed to win at home by two goals to one in the Aldershot Senior Cup, courtesy of strikes from Wes Goggin and Brett Cooper.

Ash currently sit in fourteenth place in the CCL table and come into the match on the back of a 1-3 defeat on Saturday at the hands of Badshot Lea.  Prior to that though, they won by four goals to two away at Sevenoaks Town in the FA Vase, to earn themselves a place in the 2nd Round Proper in which they will entertain South Park in a few weeks time.

The address of the ground is Shawfields Stadium, Youngs Drive, Shawfields Road, Ash, Aldershot, Hants, GU12 6RE.  Kick off is 7.30 p.m.

Earlier this evening (Monday) goals from Joel Large and Eva Batousal were not enough and the Under-18’s departed the Middlesex Senior Youth Cup by three goals to two at the hands of Enfield Town U18.  Eva’s goal came right at the death though and Ashford were left to rue once again conceding two early goals, leaving them with a mountain to climb.

The lads will still have the opportunity to win a match this week though, as they have a second game on Thursday away to Northwood U18 in the Ryman Youth League.

There is no match for the Suburban League side on Wednesday once again so their next outing is on Saturday when they more or less complete all their long away trips with a match at Newport Pagnell Town.  We now know that in the 2nd Round of the Suburban League Cup, we will be meeting Horsham YMCA in a two-legged affair.
